Startup success is hinged on hiring

Hello, I'm I am Jules Elvins, the CEO of ElVinyl and I run the day to day operation of the business. 

Our startup ElVinyl was founded in February this year by myself and my business partner Richard Morton Jack. We are an online marketplace where users can use our platform to buy and sell records to each other. Both Richard and I are life-long record collectors and we have felt for a number of years that there is no site that exists that caters to the specific requirements of record collectors, whether they are casual buyers or serious record heads. After a prolonged period of procrastination we decided we would try and fix this.

When we joined Le Wagon as hiring partners, we knew what we were looking for: people who are inquisitive and interested in learning new things and who are not afraid to ask questions. I think that working for a company is a huge personal investment for an employee and Richard and I will in turn look to reward and invest in the people who choose to work with us.

We're using Ruby on Rails to build our website and this was perfect, because that's what Le Wagon teaches. I like the fact that the graduates are largely people who have come from various walks of life and different stages in their lives. It is clear to me that people don't just undertake the Le Wagon bootcamp unless they're serious minded and are keen to progress and develop the skills that they've have been taught.

We hired two great developers, Greg and David, within days of Le Wagon Careers Day. They've just completed their first month and both display the aptitude and enthusiasm that I was hoping for when we initially went to meet everyone. 

As for professional development, we'll offer ongoing training as and when required or requested. The company's success will largely hinge on the people we employ, therefore we plan to invest heavily in anyone who wants to work with us. We're also quite fun, we like to have a laugh and create a nice atmosphere to work it, we have dress-up Fridays where we all have to wear suits! The opposite of dress-down, it's great.

When looking at the future and growth of ElVinyl, our business vision is to focus on records to start with then to expand. There are many other niche areas we are interested in looking at! Watch this space.
