Upskilling with Le Wagon and becoming an IT Consultant

I obtained my degree in International Business and did some internships in the business development / marketing sector. I then started working as marketing manager in an agency. I decided to join a coding bootcamp to gain a better understanding on tech topics. During my research Le Wagon stood out with its high ratings and entrepreneurial culture.

After finishing high school in Munich, I obtained my degree in International Business in parallel with a couple of internships in the business development / marketing sector. Subsequently I started working as an online marketing manager in a marketing agency, mainly focusing on optimization of websites in terms of meeting search engine requirements and design best practices. Later this role evolved into a mixture of marketing and business development functions, in which my responsibilities expanded by building partnerships and collaborations within the IT sector as well as taking over part of the pitches for potential clients.

Prior to Le Wagon I was familiar with some of the basic coding terms and concepts through my exchange with developers but didn’t have the opportunity to put those into practice. The coding bootcamp seemed like a suitable option to gain a better perspective on multiple tech topics and thus improve my skills and mutual work with programmers. During my research Le Wagon stood out with its high ratings and entrepreneurial culture. Since it has a campus in Germany as well, this was the ideal combination.

When I joined Le Wagon, I was aware of the upcoming deep dive into the tech world and this was actually my goal. The intensive communication with developers during my job encouraged further my interest regarding the whole process and functionality behind the code. This was a proper starting point and I consider it as one of the best decisions I have made concerning my competence and skills development.

The best part is you get to know many people coming from different industries, which transforms the learning journey into an adventure, where everybody is in the same boat and moves through mutual support toward their goals.

The whole bootcamp experience is an exciting and inspiring challenge for anyone (with a little or without any previous coding background). In my point of view and probably to many others, the bootcamp is also an ego check. The mentality, which has to be developed, is that struggle and failure are an essential part of the process and accepting those will only enable you to learn more.

Besides the well designed curriculum, which covers essential aspects of the web development, there were multiple factors making the bootcamp an unforgettable experience. Le Wagon teachers did their best to guide us through the whole coding trip and their support played a huge role for us staying motivated and hungry for more during those 2 months. Another important aspect for me was the opportunity to develop meaningful relationships and exchange ideas with great people. I had the chance and pleasure to work in a group with some outstanding folks for our final project. The outcome was a Rails prototype of a learning platform for apprentices (“Azubis”). Beginning of 2020 the guys managed to launch it as an actual startup - Mozubi - and have been steadily growing.

During the Career Week at the end of the bootcamp, I attended a talk, where Accenture held an intriguing presentation regarding various career opportunities.

Leaving Le Wagon makes you hungry for more knowledge and eager to apply everything learned. I saw this as a great possibility to apply the gained knowledge so far and my previous experience with working with clients. After a few days I sent out my application and it didn’t take long to start the process.
At the moment I am working as an IT consultant at Accenture, supporting clients in the process of developing web applications and expanding their feature sets using agile methodologies and techniques.

The up-to-date curriculum of Le Wagon encompasses multiple key areas of web development, which are fundamental for every future specialist (whether a developer, product manager or any other role in the tech industry). Understanding databases and SQL syntax, working with APIs and grasping the whole process of creating a product from scratch are just a few examples of how beneficial the whole journey was. This continues helping me with the day-to-day work and pursuit of my future career goals.
