Quero falar com iniciantes na programa\u00e7\u00e3o, entusiastas, gente que acha interessante, mas tem a (equivocada) impress\u00e3o de que \u00e9 tudo muito complicado, com quem nunca escreveu uma linha de c\u00f3digo e at\u00e9 com quem n\u00e3o tem ideia do que seja Git.<\/div>

Git e a Estrutura de Diret\u00f3rios<\/h2>

Uma zona, n\u00e3o \u00e9 mesmo? Agora, imagine s\u00f3 essa mesma situa\u00e7\u00e3o em um projeto cuja estrutura de diret\u00f3rios \u00e9 mais ou menos assim
git e a estrutura de diret\u00f3rios<\/figcaption><\/figure>Um exemplinho pr\u00e1tico: o projeto que desenvolvi durante o bootcamp do Wagon, que \u00e9 relativamente simples, tem 266 arquivos! J\u00e1 pensou a zona se a cada nova vers\u00e3o de cada um dos arquivos eu fizesse uma c\u00f3pia nova? Meu projeto teve mais de 700 commits (se voc\u00ea n\u00e3o sabe o que isso significa, tudo bem, aqui<\/a> tem um gloss\u00e1rio de Git. Mas tenha em mente que \u00e9 uma esp\u00e9cie de registro do projeto, um 'save' daquela vers\u00e3o), quanto do espa\u00e7o no meu disco seria consumido se todas as vers\u00f5es fossem salvas localmente? E, pior, eu tenho certeza de que iria ficar louca tentando descobrir qual arquivo 'final' \u00e9 realmente o final. Sem falar na important\u00edssima quest\u00e3o: como trabalhar simultaneamente com os membros do meu grupo sem ter um sistema organizado de controle de versionamento de c\u00f3digo? 

POIS \u00c9! Agrade\u00e7a a Deus (tamb\u00e9m conhecido como Linus Torvalds): voc\u00ea nunca precisar\u00e1 saber como \u00e9!<\/div>

Eu mesma n\u00e3o sei, nunca usei outro sistema de controle de versionamento. Fiz uma pesquisa para conhecer a realidade dos programadores antes de 2005, o ano em que o Linus nos aben\u00e7oou com o Git e te garanto: era tanto problema que nem bate a curiosidade de dar uma procurada e tentar emular as dificuldades do passado.<\/div>

Antigamente, para desenvolvimento de software em grupo, para algu\u00e9m poder ter acesso \u00e0 um peda\u00e7o de c\u00f3digo e edit\u00e1-lo, esta parte do programa, ficava ''travada'' com este desenvolvedor espec\u00edfico, at\u00e9 que ele, por sua vez, terminasse seu trabalho, seu c\u00f3digo fosse revisado, e ent\u00e3o, at\u00e9 que sua contribui\u00e7\u00e3o fosse ''mergeada'' ao c\u00f3digo master, <\/em>ningu\u00e9m mais poderia ter acesso \u00e0 essa parte do programa.

Isso fazia com que fosse muito, mas MUITO mais demorado, lento e trabalhoso a programa\u00e7\u00e3o em equipe. Quanto mais em grandes equipes. E quanto mais em softwares complexos, que antigamente eram vendidos por licenciatura, ao inv\u00e9s como a maioria \u00e9 vendida hoje, por assinatura. Se o mundo de hoje \u00e9 mais din\u00e2mico e os softwares melhoram mais r\u00e1pido, \u00e9 gra\u00e7as \u00e0 ferramenta do Git, que trouxe efici\u00eancia e a possibilidade de acabar com esse fluxo de trabalho pouco din\u00e2mico. Agora, com Git era poss\u00edvel voc\u00ea editar uma mesma pe\u00e7a de c\u00f3digo, que co-existia simultaneamente em mais de um computador, fora do ambiente de produ\u00e7\u00e3o....No ambiente de desenvolvimento! Simplificando bem, \u00e9 uma ferramenta gr\u00e1tis e open-source que voc\u00ea usa para controlar as vers\u00f5es do c\u00f3digo-fonte do seu projeto. Tendo uma arquitetura distribu\u00edda, o Git n\u00e3o requer um servidor central (como acontece em outros sistemas de controle de vers\u00e3o tipo o CVS ou o Subversion), e cada colaborador do projeto conta com uma c\u00f3pia do c\u00f3digo que tamb\u00e9m serve como um reposit\u00f3rio que guarda todo o hist\u00f3rico das vers\u00f5es.<\/div>

O Git tamb\u00e9m encara data de uma forma melhor diferente de outros sistemas. A maioria dos VCSs (version control software<\/em>) pensa na informa\u00e7\u00e3o que eles guardam como um bando de arquivos e altera\u00e7\u00f5es feitas neles ao longo do tempo. J\u00e1 o Git encara data mais como uma s\u00e9rie de fotos, a cada commit, o Git registra como est\u00e3o todos os seus arquivos naquele instante e guarda uma refer\u00eancia. Se nada mudou, o Git n\u00e3o guarda o arquivo novamente, s\u00f3 mant\u00e9m o registro que j\u00e1 tinha. Bem melhor em termos de desempenho, n\u00e9?<\/div>

Como Git funciona na pr\u00e1tica?<\/h2>

Como o Git opera de forma majoritariamente local, \u00e9 poss\u00edvel trabalhar mesmo off-line. Talvez depois voc\u00ea precise fazer uns ajustes, se o time fizer altera\u00e7\u00f5es conflitantes com as suas edi\u00e7\u00f5es no c\u00f3digo, mas essa mesclagem de vers\u00f5es e branches tamb\u00e9m \u00e9 simples de fazer no Git (ouvi relatos do tamanho de deixar qualquer desenvolvedor de cabelo em p\u00e9 sobre a dificuldade que era era resolver esse tipo de conflito pr\u00e9-Git ). O legal de tudo ser bem local tamb\u00e9m \u00e9 a liberdade de errar: trabalhou no c\u00f3digo, mas deu ruim, criou um bug absurdo e n\u00e3o conseguiu resolver? Tudo bem, \u00e9 s\u00f3 n\u00e3o enviar isso para o resto do time.<\/div>

O Git estimula o desenvolvedor a ter boas pr\u00e1ticas, como abrir branches para trabalhar. Primeiro de tudo: criar uma branch \u00e9 muito r\u00e1pido. Uma linha de comando e pronto, voc\u00ea j\u00e1 est\u00e1 no seu pr\u00f3prio bra\u00e7o do projeto e tem liberdade para criar e alterar qualquer coisa, com a tranquilidade de saber que s\u00f3 ir\u00e1 para o c\u00f3digo master se voc\u00ea quiser. Voc\u00ea tamb\u00e9m pode ir e voltar, \u00e9 f\u00e1cil e r\u00e1pido sair da branch que voc\u00ea est\u00e1 e ir a outra, uma antiga, por exemplo, para atualizar ou resolver algo.<\/div>

A real \u00e9 que o Git faz muita coisa e facilita demais a vida do programador, mas vou falar sobre o que eu acho mais m\u00e1gico \u00e9 que te permite viajar no tempo. \u00c9 fant\u00e1stica a simplicidade do Git para se navegar pelas diferentes vers\u00f5es do seu projeto, reverter para alguma inst\u00e2ncia espec\u00edfica, ou at\u00e9, para projetos longos, ver como estavam as coisas h\u00e1 alguns meses. D\u00e1 para fazer pesquisas no git log para, por exemplo, ver commits feitos em uma determinada janela de tempo ou por pessoas espec\u00edficas. Para quem curte uma ferramenta gr\u00e1fica, o GitGraph, extens\u00e3o para o VS Code, \u00e9 muito legal nesse aspecto, ilustra bem toda a timeline e as diferentes branches e mesclagens com a master:
