Are you considering studying AI Software or Data Science in Japan? If so, you’re not alone! At the top of everyone’s travel list for 2026, discover why Tokyo is a great pick to go through Le Wagon’s bootcamps.
Once again ranking among the very top cities for digital nomads, and with an extremely favorable currency exchange rate, Tokyo might currently be the best destination to combine leisure and learning.
This Spring, no less than 7 people flew over from all over the world đčđ·đșđžđ±đ§đŹđ§đČđœđŠđčđšđ to spend two months studying (and enjoying Japan!) with us at Le Wagon Tokyo.
Let’s discover what they have to say about the city, what are their favorite lunch spots around the campus, and what are their plans after they graduate!

Japanese media, movies and series capture something about the relationship between humans and technology, and what it does to us, that I’ve never seen anywhere else. Going through a tech-focused bootcamp here felt like the only city that actually made sense.
Hunting for secondhand electronics in Akihabara, finding underground live music you’d never come across online. But honestly the best nights have been the Friday karaoke sessions with the bootcamp people, you end up showing sides of yourself nobody would ever guess, guilty pleasure songs included.
I’m really interested in cybersecurity so ideally something in that space, or anything where I can actually use both my brain and my creativity rather than just one or the other. And I’ve barely scratched the surface of Japan so I probably will be traveling to southern parts after the bootcamp.
I really love the bentos of the butcher shop nearby, and if you want something different, the vegan Korean kitchen from Communita on Wednesdays is an amazing option!

Tokyo was a result of last minute changes, but it could not have turned out any better and a more complete experience than it did. I had studied abroad here during my undergrad, yet 9 weeks here were a completely novel experience and not nearly enough time in this changing city. I intentionally targeted Le Wagon, and it delivered on every aspect I imagined.
Kickstart the day with any of Tokyo’s many specialty coffee shops (thank god Le Wagon has one in its building), go and walk in a new or known neighborhood, meet up with Le Wagon peeps, have a nice dinner, and then dance the night out with them across Tokyo!
I’ll be taking time to travel more in southeast Asia, specifically the Philippines, and then meet up with a friend and travel in China. Otherwise, I will go back to Deloitte in New York City, where I’ll be targeting Data Science roles and projects!
Tonkatsu Taihou for fatty and great tonkatsu, or tsukemen right next to it. Wawich for banh mi style sandwiches, and honestly many more around. Do visit Coffee Base in the morning, a specialty coffee shop that roasts their own beans. It’s my special ritual every morning.

I chose Tokyo because, out of all the Le Wagon cities, it felt the most unique and exciting to me. Thereâs something special about the mix of culture, energy, and technology that made it an easy choice.
A perfect day in Tokyo would probably start with visiting a beautiful temple, then heading to a park to play sports and chill with friends. Iâd end the day exploring cool neighborhoods, trying great food spots, and bar hopping under the city lights.
Right after the bootcamp, I plan to revisit and strengthen everything we learned while continuing to deepen my knowledge in Data Science & AI. At the same time, Iâll be looking for opportunities to start my career in the field and build exciting projects along the way.
My top 3 lunch spots around campus are Tonkatsu Taihou for a super satisfying lunch, Bangkok Oriental for a great Thai buffet, and Go Bring Slider whenever Iâm in the mood for burgers.

I first came to Tokyo as a visitor in autumn and started learning programming on my own through online resources, very slowly, without even knowing that this bootcamp existed. Later, I began searching for full-stack development bootcamps because I felt I needed something more structured than self-learning. By chance, I came across Le Wagon, and since I had really enjoyed my time in Tokyo, I decided to apply here.
A perfect day for me is when I decide to do something completely spontaneous. This city always seems to surprise me with unusual and interesting experiences, and those unexpected moments are what I enjoy the most. So for me, itâs all about going out, exploring Tokyo, and seeing what the city brings you!
Iâd like to continue learning and developing my coding skills. I also want to focus on some of my own project ideas and hopefully bring them to life. At the same time, Iâm continuing my Masterâs degree in Business in Austria and helping establish a family business. Before the summer heat and all the rush begin, Iâd love to spend some quality time with my family in Turkey.
I reaaally enjoyed the Korean food at Communita Cafe. It felt healthier and more homemade than many other options. I didnât have much time to cook during the bootcamp, so I often ate out. While eating in Tokyo can be quite affordable, it can also be a bit unhealthy sometimes, so Korean lunch days were perfect for me!

I knew I wanted to do the full-time course, and from all the available cities Tokyo was the one I wanted to get to know the most. Not only as a tourist, but as a short time resident – it sounded intriguing to me.
Either to get some extra work done in a co-working coffee… or getting out of the city and visit mount fuji and some drinks with friends in the the evening.
I’m writing this from Koh Samui where I am doing a little fitness bootcamp to digest the Data Science bootcamp. Work-wise, I’m currently looking for a job in Switzerland which combines the the newly acquired skills with my previous background (energy consultant).

Choosing Tokyo for me was easy. As someone who had been into Japan, otaku culture, and the like for many years online, I had always wanted to stay in Japan but never got around to it. So this was a perfect opportunity to do so and learn a skill I was interested in simultaneously.
Tokyo has plenty of areas I enjoy exploring, especially the less touristy neighborhoods and some smaller ones. It is nice to be in a big city not full of crazies or falling apart like in the US or many back in Europe. I like to pick an area, maybe look into it a bit online, and then explore it somewhat randomly, seeing what I come across. I also enjoyed the games and merch in Akibahara, the Tokyo parks, and the trains of course.
Work-wise Iâm not sure yet and am considering my options. A new slate of opportunities has opened up to me with these skills and I am weighing many including committing time to further learning, working on projects of my own, and some other avenues. Leisure-wise I will be visiting a friend in Osaka.
Often times I would grab something from è€ć±çČŸèæŹćș. Itâs a local butcher shop just down the road that has a bento menu for which they cook fresh meat for your order. I canât recall its name, but there is also a great tsukemen ramen place towards Meguro station on the north side of the 312 after the Meguro river.

I had already lived in Japan for just over a year in total, having worked two winter seasons in Hakuba and done some travelling, and absolutely loved living here. For me it was an easy decision.
A perfect day in Tokyo for me doesnât need to be action-packed. I like just being outside, hanging with friends and exploring the city. Trying some new cheap food spots, finding green spaces to relax, which is important in a place that can sometimes feel very chaotic and non-stop. Then in the evening, weâd go out for dinner and drinks, and then on to a local music event to finish off.
I am staying in Tokyo for just a couple more weeks before moving on to Australia. But I will be back – hopefully a lot!
Sukiya! Just kidding, probably the butchers down the road that does really great bentos for around 700 JPY. Or even the supermarket Maruetsu has lots of good cheap options. The sliders place is good too.
And if you don’t believe us… Here they all are on Demo Day!
