Hi Jérôme, can you please introduce yourself?

Hello, I’m Jérôme, I’m 29 years old and I’m a CTO at Place Called Home, a record label based out of Berlin. Before this, I studied Computer Science and Business Analysis. After completing my Master’s degree, I attended the Data Science bootcamp in Brussels and, more recently, the Data Engineering bootcamp in Paris.

What inspired you to join the Data Engineering bootcamp?

There are several reasons why I decided to join the bootcamp. First, after analyzing job market trends, it became evident that there was an increasing demand for Data Engineering skills. In order to have more market leverage and upskill, the bootcamp was the perfect option.

Additionally, my day-to-day job requires a lot of data engineering skills, which I was lacking. I wanted to upskill in the field to become more efficient at work and more independent.

Finally, when you work full-time, you generally work a 40-hour week on average. With this in mind, it’s difficult to stay up-to-date with all of the new tools and technologies. Therefore, it’s important to think of short trainings like the Data Engineering bootcamp as standard practice in the industry. In just a few weeks, you can learn a whole new skill set to become more efficient and relevant and apply these new learnings directly to your industry.

What did you hope to achieve by completing the bootcamp?

In short, I aimed to improve my efficiency. I was impressed by the course curriculum, which covered over 30 different tools. This brought a lot of value to me, as I returned to my job at the end of the bootcamp knowing that I would be three times more efficient with what I had learned.

Can you share your overall experience of the bootcamp?

It was a positive experience. Compared to other bootcamps I’ve completed, the demographic here was more technical, with attendees who were more senior in their respective companies. As a result, the experience was incredibly enriching and allowed for knowledge-sharing across the board.

Of course, it was also a very intense few weeks, but I believe that this is a great way to deeply explore the content. Additionally, there is always the opportunity to review the content after the course is complete.

It was also a wonderful opportunity to visit Paris, a new city for me, during these few weeks.

Where there any specific skills or tools that you learned that helped you in your current role?

The course covered a variety of tools and technologies, including data modelling tools and concepts like ORM, OLAP, SQLAlchemy, Alembic; data pipeline and workflow management tools such as Airflow, ETL, ELT, ETLT, and dbt; and containerization and orchestration tools like Docker and Docker Compose. There was also much more covered!

How has completing the bootcamp impacted your career goals and trajectory?

I’m finally able to be more efficient in my job. Career-wise, I feel much more comfortable, as I know that I’m now more competitive on the job market.

Do you have any advice for someone considering upskilling in Data Engineering?

Do not hesitate to take this course! Whether you are career-oriented, a freelancer, or an entrepreneur, it will allow you to stand out against the competition.

Thank you Jérôme!
