Telo’s journey: how learning to code helped me build my business

Telo Castro shares his story, from completing a web development bootcamp at Le Wagon to founding his own successful e-commerce business, Wallim.

From bootcamp to business

Hi, I’m Telo Castro, the founder and CEO of Wallim, an e-commerce company selling both physical and software products. Our journey began in 2019, and today, we’re proud to be selling across Europe.

Before launching Wallim, I made a strategic decision to attend Le Wagon’s Web Development bootcamp in Lisbon and, later on, work for a consulting firm. My goal was to understand how other companies operate before building my own. After gaining valuable experience for a year and a half, I took the leap and founded my own business.

Building Wallim with a vision

Wallim started as a brand with a simple mission: to create products that simplify life. Initially, I worked solo, but soon I connected with talented people from Le Wagon who shared the same entrepreneurial mindset. One of the best aspects of being part of Le Wagon’s community is meeting people eager to build, create, and support each other on their journeys.

Together with my team, we’ve developed innovative products like our RFID-protected wallets and our latest venture, a smart business card built with the skills we learned during the bootcamp. This card uses Ruby on Rails technology and allows users to transfer contact details instantly by tapping it on another person’s phone, eliminating the need for paper business cards.

Empowerment through coding

What makes Wallim special is that our products are not just ideas but solutions we’ve built ourselves. From concept to development, we do it all in-house. Alongside me, Rita drives our brand, and Miguel plays a key role in product development, both of whom I met during my time at Le Wagon.

The skills I learned at Le Wagon have been critical to my success. Learning how to code gave me the confidence to create my own tools, build my website, and ultimately take control of my entrepreneurial path. It taught me that execution is everything: you need to bring your ideas to life and test them in the market as soon as possible.

At Le Wagon, you don’t just learn technical skills, you learn how to turn your ideas into reality. My advice? Start building your idea today, and let your entrepreneurial journey begin!
