One of the most important aspects of picking a new career is understanding your motivations. Careers in Web and Software Development offer higher pay than most non-tech industries, offer more flexible work options and are perfect for those who are looking to embrace new challenges and tackle them with creative solutions.
We spoke to 3 Web Development bootcamp graduates to learn why they chose to study Web Development and enter new careers in tech.
Graduated from the Web Development Online Part-Time Flex bootcamp.
I got involved with web development [as an e-commerce manager] and realised that I was quite intrigued to learn more about it. I started doing online courses, and read books and articles on website development to better understand the ins and outs of a website and communicate with our developers.
It was during my previous job that I became passionate about web development and saw it as a challenge for myself. It was the tail end of COVID lockdowns, and it basically clicked inside me that it was now or never. So I made the big decision to invest the time and money in something for myself and my future.
Jobs in tech tend to be more versatile, whether flexible hours or hybrid/remote working, which, for me, was another factor in making the switch.

I love problem-solving, and it’s an ever-changing landscape, which means you constantly have to learn new skills to succeed, which really appealed to me. I also have a large family and mentor young people and there aren’t too many people who come from my background in this field so I hope that by being visible I can encourage more young people to get involved in tech..its a good place to be!
I love learning, enjoy both front and backend and in my current role we get exposure to different technical projects using different technologies across multiple industries. It’s very rare to get that much varied exposure in such a short time, which is why I love working for a tech consultancy. Working in environments with smart, collaborative people is great as there is always something new to pick up, and I’m lucky to have a good work-life balance.

I appreciate how the tech industry offers various roles catering to different skill sets and interests. For example, if you enjoy problem-solving, programming and software development could be an excellent fit. On the other hand, if you prefer working with people, project management could be a better option.
The high demand for tech professionals also means that they are likely to have greater job security and higher salaries than professionals in other industries. Moreover, the tech industry has a significant impact on society, and working in tech can provide an opportunity to make a positive impact on the world.
Lastly, the tech industry is constantly evolving, providing opportunities to learn and develop new skills throughout your career, keeping you engaged and challenged. Overall, transitioning into tech can be a smart move for people seeking a rewarding, challenging, and in-demand career.
