One question our future students often ask: Should I get a new laptop for the course?
Should future students get new laptops?
While it may sometimes be necessary as their current equipment is quite old, we also know that it can be a significant investment for some of our students. Contrary to popular belief, most programming is not that GPU-intensive, and our students don’t necessarily need brand new laptops to handle the day-to-day coding at Le Wagon.
We also cannot ignore the environmental impact of electronic waste generated by the tech industry, and wanted to create a strong incentive for our future students to take the sustainable route by going with refurbished laptops.
Back Market, French unicorn leading the refurbished electronics market
Considering all these aspects, we are very excited to announce a new partnership with Back Market Japan , a French unicorn, B-corp certified and leading platform for high-quality refurbished electronics, aimed at providing sustainable laptops to our bootcamp students.
“I believe they represent the future of what most companies should be, directly integrating sustainability challenges into their business model. After hearing of a couple of our graduates purchasing laptops through Back Market, and using the service myself to buy a refurbished phone, it made sense to find a way to collaborate. I had the chance to meet Valerian during a French Tech monthly event, and he’s been extremely helpful in making this partnership possible.” says Sylvain, Le Wagon Tokyo’s founder & general manager.
