After more than 10 years in tech, it was time to learn how to code…
My background is in computer engineering and I have been working in the tech industry for more than 10 years. Throughout, I was always fascinated by how fun it is to be in this field. Innovation is at the heart of the industry and new discoveries are constantly taking place.
I’m also inspired by how technology is changing the world to make it a more productive place. I always felt that I wanted to code but didn’t have the time until recently, so I seized the opportunity and decided to join Le Wagon.
My experience at Le Wagon was amazing.
Throughout the bootcamp, I was really impressed by the level of knowledge that the teachers demonstrated and their professionalism, in addition to their skills and patience in delivering the material and guiding us through over 300 different coding challenges over the 9 weeks.
The curriculum was extremely well structured and in my opinion it covered all the key concepts that a Web Developer needs to know. What surprised me the most was the intensity of the bootcamp and how much information we were able to master in only 9 weeks.
Working with a new buddy every day was exciting.
I was really pleased by the diverse background of the students attending the bootcamp. This diversity is one of the reasons that I truly enjoyed working with a new coding buddy every day, and I’d always be excited to figure out who I’d be working with for the next 8 hours!
I found myself really enjoying the daily challenges of the bootcamp. I used to wake up early every morning, just so I could have a peak at the challenges before the lecture even started. Whenever I had some free time I also loved researching the core concepts behind each challenge, to help me go further with my learning.
During the last three weeks, it felt like we were working like real software developers
“Project Weeks” were extremely interesting because they followed a real Agile Project Management methodology. It was like a real-life development environment and each day started with a daily stand-up where we discussed what we did yesterday, what we are going to do today, and whether we were facing any impediments… We used “Trello” every day to collaborate on the project tasks and overall this experience has really prepared us for our future jobs in tech.
Le Wagon continued to help us, even beyond the 9-weeks
Le Wagon was helpful after the bootcamp in so many ways. During “Career Week”, we were introduced to an extensive local and international community of developers and founders. Le Wagon’s staff helped us to build our CVs and LinkedIn profiles and taught us everything we needed to kick-start our careers in Software Development. We even did mock-interviews with experts in the industry to improve our interview techniques…
Looking to the future…
Learning how to code with Le Wagon gave me a better perspective into design-led thinking and how to build quality software architecture. I also learned more about myself, including the fact that I am even more productive under pressure. It feels great to be part of Le Wagon's alumni community stretching across the globe. I can confidently connect remotely with people all over the world and through the network I’m sure I can find real opportunities in the industry.
My plan is to follow Le Wagon’s advice and “keep coding”, try to learn something new every day, until we see where this wonderful journey is going to take me!
