Hello Bhanva, could you please introduce yourself?
Hi, I am Bhavna! I am 28 years old, I joined Le Wagon in september 2021 - full time batch Mauritius#712. Upon completion I now work as a front-end developer at Wshop.
Can you tell us about your background before you learned how to code?
Before learning to code, I went from teaching pre primary to completing my undergraduate program in Communication,Media and Journalism. I learned coding at university which actually made me fascinated with it. After completing university, the pandemic hit, and Le Wagon had just set up in Mauritius, I couldn't think of a better opportunity to start learning to code.
What was you main goal upon joining Le Wagon?
I was changing my career path, as I wanted something more challenging. I like to keep learning new things and coding became part of it. I loved learning how to code at Le Wagon, it offered me the opportunity and I am glad for it.
Can you tell us about your experience going through the Bootcamp?
Before joining the bootcamp, I was a bit doubtful, but when I joined the bootcamp, with the help of teachers, TAs and a system of buddies(pairing up with different classmates everyday), I could overcome the difficulties and understand better as everyone was always ready to help. I couldn't wish for a better place to learn coding. It was an amazing experience and not just in coding but making new friends.
Can you tell us about your expectations and goals when you first joined Le Wagon?
Le wagon had met more than my expectation, joining the bootcamp I was still a bit skeptical as I was changing from one domain to another but it did not disappoint me. Le wagon has prepared me for it, from a non coder to coding full time, it has been adventurous.
Looking back at your experience at the Bootcamp, how did it help you get to where you are now?
It gave me the confidence to be where I am, 9 weeks of intensive bootcamp, full of memory, full of knowledge and just not only in coding, but communicating with others by working in a team. The bootcamp has prepared us well for the future and it has been very encouraging.
How was your experience finding a new position in a completely different field?
Changing my career path was not easy. Le Wagon helped us prepare a new CV, updating our linkedin which has been really helpful, I got so many interviews in tech industries. When I had an entry exam for Wshop, I was nervous but was prepared so it went well.
What's your favorite thing about working in Tech?
Tech world is very dynamic and keeps on evolving, it's a never ending learning process, I keep on learning different techniques. It is challenging and never a boring moment.
Now that you're at Wshop. Can you tell us about your day-to-day job?
I work as a front-end developer at Wshop. I work on different projects which are assigned to me. As I recently joined, the seniors are very helpful in explaining how to tackle the tasks.
The thing is even while working, we are always learning new techniques. I get to implement the stuff I learned at Le Wagon which are really very beneficial.
Do you have any final advice for someone who's looking into joining the Le Wagon community?
If you want to learn how to code and have no prior knowledge, joining Le Wagon is the best choice. Trust the process, the bootcamp will provide you with more than just coding, it will give you the best experience and more.
