Can you please introduce yourself and give an insight into your background?
My name is Célia, I’m 23 years old, and I graduated in 2022 from ICHEC with a Master’s in Business Management. During my studies, one of my favourite subjects was entrepreneurship but on the side, I have always been enthusiastic about fashion and more particularly all the different techniques to make clothes. I love to sew, knit, and crochet.
What made you decide to attend a Le Wagon bootcamp?
After finishing my Masters, I didn’t want to directly start working, partly because I didn’t know what I wanted to do, but also because I wanted to take a year ‘off’ to take the time to learn new things. I felt like I acquired mostly soft skills during my studies and really wanted to learn something more concrete. Learning Web Development had been in the back of my head for 2-3 years now, I thought about it when I had to choose a master but didn’t find the right format for me at the time. So when I learned about Le Wagon bootcamp, it looked like the perfect formula for my year off.
Can you tell us about your experiences at Le Wagon? What were your highest and lowest moments?
Looking back at my 3 months at Le Wagon Belgium, it was mostly highs. I remember coming back from the second day of the bootcamp and feeling so excited because I just loved what I was learning and felt so stimulated and challenged. On a day to day, I really liked how the day was divided, a small lectures in the morning and then the challenges during the rest of the day to directly use what we learned (and more) and put it into practice. There are no specific lowest moments, but there were some days when I was just tired, it’s quite intensive you have to understand and assimilate a lot of different subjects quite fast which can be pretty tiring.
Did Le Wagon’s community play an important role during your program?
Definitely, my experience wouldn’t have been the same without my classmates and teachers. We had a lot of fun during the 9 weeks, and it’s always nice to hear news from them and what they are doing now. I also found my job thanks to the community, so it definitely played a big role.
What do you do now, and are you happy with your new career?
I now have been working for 5 months as a Back-End Developer at Recovr. And so far I’m really enjoying it, it’s really challenging, and I’m learning something new every day. I can really see how much I have improved in the past months.
I’m really happy with what I’m doing, I used to say that what I was good at (and what I liked doing) was resolving problems, using the logical side of my brain to find the best solution to a problem, and that’s what I’m doing most of the time.
What was your biggest fear in switching careers?
I wasn’t working yet so there was no real switch in my career, but there was definitely a switch from what I thought I was going to do in the future. I joined Le Wagon without a lot of expectation, I just wanted to learn and try something else and see if I liked it. I ended up finding something that was a really good match for me, that challenged and stimulated me just in the right way.
Do you have any tips for young graduates who also want to take the big leap?
If they have the opportunity and the motivation to do it, they should go for it, it’s only 9 weeks and it could have such a big impact on their lives and their career.
