How Le Wagon Reignited Yoshi’s Entrepreneurial Spark

After working in the financial services industry and exploring various other paths, Yoshi found himself seeking a new direction. That's when he decided to embark on a life-changing experience Le Wagon's Web Development Bootcamp in Bali.
Summary

Yoshi is a true global citizen. Born in Osaka, Japan, he was raised in various countries, including Taiwan, Hong Kong, and South Korea. After completing his university education in the United States, he ventured into the financial services industry, but soon realized it wasn’t his true calling. Determined to make a change, he explored different avenues, from working in the coffee industry in Honduras to delving into the field of education. However, he felt a persistent desire to learn how to code, a skill he had been trying to acquire for a few years through online courses.

The Bootcamp Experience

Yoshi knew that a structured, immersive program was necessary for him to truly master coding. Le Wagon proved to be one of the most challenging experiences of his life. The curriculum pushed him to his limits every day.

“The Le Wagon curriculum is built in a very intelligent way, but at the same time, it was extremely challenging. So it definitely sort of pushed me to my limits every day, but the end result was definitely worthwhile as well.”

One of the most significant moments during Tsuyoshi’s bootcamp experience was the project week. Coming into the bootcamp, Yoshi had a specific idea in mind – to develop a platform that would help foreigners purchase abandoned properties in Japan, which he called the Akiya Access.

Yoshi’s motivation for this project stemmed from his desire to address a problem he had observed firsthand. As a Japanese national who had lived and worked abroad, he recognized the challenges that foreigners often face when trying to navigate the complex process of purchasing property in Japan. At the same time, he noticed there are thousands of abandoned houses in Japan for sale, but these properties often go unnoticed or inaccessible to foreign buyers due to language barriers, cultural differences, and lack of information. By creating a user-friendly platform, he hoped to connect these abandoned properties with potential foreign buyers, unlocking new opportunities for investment and revitalization in the Japanese real estate market.

The demo day, where Yoshi and his team presented their project to the audience, was an especially poignant moment for him. “Just seeing it all come together on that final day, being able to present it to the audience was a very, very moving moment for me,” he shared. “These guys worked late hours, even on weekends, and I was just so touched by the amazing effort that they had put in to the project that I had pitched.” His experience during project week not only allowed him to showcase his entrepreneurial spirit but also highlighted the power of teamwork and the support he received from his fellow bootcamp mates. This achievement has fueled his determination to continue refining his coding skills and bringing his startup idea to life.

The Bali Experience

Yoshi specifically chose Bali as the location for his bootcamp, as he wanted to step out of his comfort zone. The vibrant entrepreneurial community in Bali, with its diverse array of exciting projects, was a stark contrast to the more traditional global cities he had experienced. Beyond the technical skills and knowledge gained, his most cherished takeaway from the bootcamp was the people he met. From the hotel staff to the instructors and fellow students, he found himself part of a warm, inviting community that made his time in Bali truly unforgettable.

Continuing the Journey

With a newfound understanding of web development and a clear path for his startup idea, he’s now poised to continue his coding journey He encourages others considering a career change or entrepreneurial path to embrace the bootcamp experience, as it can provide the direction and inspiration they seek. The bootcamp not only equipped him with technical skills but also reignited his entrepreneurial spirit and connected him with a community that will continue to shape his future.
