Meet Corey: From Commercial Pilot to Junior Developer!

Corey has a very diverse work history. Before joining Le Wagon back in January 2021, he served 6 years in the US Army, followed by having worked several years in marketing and most recently he was issued his Commercial Pilot License. He joined our full-time 9 week Web Development bootcamp and landed a job as a Junior Developer at a consulting company.
Summary
During my interview, one of the things that really helped me stand out was approaching my presentation from the perspective of the 'user journey' which is a lesson that I learned at Le Wagon.

Before joining Le Wagon, what were you doing?

Before joining Le Wagon, I had just completed the requirements for and was issued my Commercial Pilot License. This was at the end of February just before the aviation industry was hit hard by Covid-19. Shortly after, I started teaching myself how to code using online resources and quickly fell in love with Web Development!

Can you tell us more about your experience at Le Wagon?

I found the biggest difficulty for me was overcoming my expectations of an in-person experience as, at the time, my batch was 100% remote due to the pandemic. With this being said, I was able to stay motivated by renting out a shared workspace. This allowed me to work in a distraction free workspace and overcome this obstacle.

Since graduating what have you been up to?

After the Le Wagon experience, I continued to expand my knowledge and worked as a freelance Web Developer. I actually recently landed a job as a Junior Developer with a consultant company here in Amsterdam!

What are the lessons you learned from your experience at Le Wagon?

A big lesson that I learned during the bootcamp was how to approach design and presentation. During my interview, one of the things that really helped me stand out was approaching my presentation from the perspective of the 'user journey' which is a lesson that I learned at Le Wagon.

Tell us more about your current role?

I am currently working as a freelancer, but I start a new position as a Junior Developer shortly! Within the role, I will be delivering digital products to clients, working from UX to developing and testing, working with a team of Analysts and Developers, and I will be building web applications and software solutions.
