Breaking into tech in Spain in 2025 (even without a tech background)
What’s happening in Spain’s tech sector in 2025? Discover the fastest-growing roles, rising demand, and how to switch to tech with this guide by Milly from Le Wagon’s Careers Team.
Hi 👋 I’m Milly, Student Success Manager from the Le Wagon Careers Team.
My job is to help hundreds of students in Spain transition into tech and land jobs they love.
If you’re wondering whether it’s still a good time to switch to tech in Spain, here’s a clear answer: the market is growing and companies are hiring.
In this practical guide, I’ll walk you through:
Spain’s tech sector has seen steady and consistent growth, expanding by 5.8% in 2024 with a total turnover of €120 billion, according to AMETIC. Madrid and Barcelona are the leading hubs, but with remote work more common than ever, companies across the country are expanding their tech teams.
Since 2013, more than 500,000 new tech jobs have been created, a trend that is only accelerating. In fact, 6.8% of all jobs in Spain are now in tech.
Investment levels have also skyrocketed. In early 2025, venture capital investment tripled, surpassing €1 billion raised in Q1 alone. This puts Spain in the top four tech markets in Europe, behind only Germany, the UK and France.
The strongest demand is coming from AI, fintech, and data analytics, sectors growing much faster than traditional industries.

From my daily conversations with hiring partners and alumni, I see one clear pattern: tech roles are more varied than ever.
Companies are actively hiring for AI developers, prompt engineers, cybersecurity analysts, cloud engineers, data analysts, product analysts and financial data specialists. These are no longer niche roles reserved for tech companies. Sectors like retail, finance, education and healthcare are all building tech and data teams.
At the same time, we are seeing a rapid rise in hybrid positions, where traditional roles now require tech skills. Think marketing professionals using data dashboards, HR managers automating workflows, or project managers implementing AI tools. According to Randstad, hybrid tech roles increased by 17% in 2024.

Companies in Spain are experiencing a real talent shortage. 76% of employers report difficulties hiring for tech roles, with 65% struggling to fill even junior positions.
One major reason is the short lifespan of tech skills, now averaging just two years. This means hiring managers are focusing less on formal education and more on practical, up-to-date skills.
For anyone considering a career change, this is a huge advantage. Bootcamp graduates who build job-ready skills can often outcompete degree holders who lack hands-on project experience.
At Le Wagon, we train you in the most in-demand skills while guiding you through your career change with dedicated career coaching.
During our bootcamps in Data Analytics, Data Science & AI or AI Software, you’ll build real-world projects and receive personalised career support:
And it works. 86% of our graduates land a job within six months of finishing the bootcamp, based on our latest outcomes report.
