Landing a job as developer at Accenture after learning to code with a Bildungsgutschein.
“Now is the best time to learn coding, and the demand for developers is growing even faster with the pandemic. Learning to code not only gives you job security, but also the opportunity to build your products. So, to anyone who is eligible to get the Bildungsgutschein, don’t miss this opportunity, trust me you won’t regret it.” - Ivan Tembe.
Summary
I was born and raised in Maputo, Mozambique (a beautiful country in southern Africa ) and currently living in Berlin (my second home). I have worked in different industries, from finance (at the bank) to self-thought video creator. Before joining Le Wagon, besides my studies, I was freelancing/student working as IT support for a Virtual Reality Experience project.
My passion for computers began while in high school back then home. My friends and I used to buy broken PC’s, repair them and resell them. Just to make things clear here, we had no prior hard or software education, we were hustling . After finishing high school, I decided to enrol in an undergraduate computer science program, where I ended dropping out after one semester to join the bank.By the time I joined Le Wagon, I was almost finishing my undergraduate computer science program in Berlin. However, I felt like I wasn’t ready for the market, so I thought the 9-week intensive full-stack bootcamp from Le Wagon would help me get there.
The process of getting a Bildungsgutschein was easier than I thought it would be. While on my research for the best coding bootcamp in Berlin, I found out that le Wagon was accepting Bildungsgutschein, so I decided to inform myself on how I could get one, and thanks to my girlfriend (that helped me a lot with the process) I could get one very fast. Honestly the Bildungsgutschein saved me a lot of money, and since I was eligible to get one, I thought why not!
"The best part during the 9 weeks was the pair programming, this was always a great opportunity to get to know more about the people at Le Wagon, their background, experience, etc."
The best part of the 9 weeks was the fridge is full of beer and snacks! (kidding). The best part during the 9 weeks was the pair programming, this was always a great opportunity to get to know more about the people at Le Wagon, their background, experience, etc. Besides that, the project week was also amazing, we had the opportunity to work on our own product ideas from conceptualising it to the end product (MVP).
Yes, I did face some difficulties, mostly technical. Likely, there was always someone to help me with any problem I might have faced. The teachers and the management team at Le Wagon were amazing.
The outbreak of Covid-19 happened during our project weeks (two weeks prior the end of the bootcamp) and it has affected somehow my experience at Le Wagon. A lot of people including me got sick, although it wasn't clear it was covid-19, but most of the teams at that time had to work on the final project with less team members, which somehow had affected the end result of the project. This also affected the Demo Day, we were not able to have the usual event where friends and family would participate and celebrate with us. Upon leaving Le Wagon, I was focused mainly on writing my thesis, so I did not experience the job hunting difficulties during the first weeks of the pandemic. However, few close friends that attended the bootcamp with me, couldn’t find new positions by the time.
"For me personally, thanks to Le Wagon’s ‘Get Me Hired’ program, after two months upon beginning my job hunting, I was able to get two job offers, and decide which to keep. Currently I am working as a front-end & cloud engineer at Accenture."
For me personally, thanks to Le Wagon’s ‘Get Me Hired’ program, after two months upon beginning my job hunting (six months after the bootcamp), I was able to get two job offers, and decide which to keep. After completing the bootcamp, Le Wagon will not give you a job, but they will definitely do everything they can to help you find one. Currently I am working as a front-end & cloud engineer at Accenture.
